I recently consulted with a product team that had seamlessly transitioned to remote work – or so it seemed.
Everyone was happy with the flexibility and workload, but the spark was fading. What used to be bold brainstorming sessions had become polite check-ins – and the bar quietly lowered.
The team had adopted a remote-first model but lacked intentionality, relying on organic connections to emerge. Some members thrived working asynchronously, while others missed meetings and in-person moments. Without clear team agreements on how or when to collaborate, friction grew.
The work was still getting done, but the rhythm was off, the energy was missing, and they were slowly drifting apart. Without intentional connection, their signal was fading.
Team culture is like Wi-Fi – when the signal is strong, you barely notice it, and everything flows smoothly. But when the signal drops, miscommunication and frustration take over.
